Association between Nutrient Intake, Oral Symptoms, and Oral Health Related Quality of Life of Antenatal Mothers in Sri Aman District, Sarawak

The physiological and hormonal alternations during pregnancy cause antenatal mothers to experience multiple oral symptoms because of diseases, namely dental caries, periodontal disease [1]. changes in dietary intake them be more vulnerable nutritional deficiencies further health problems. objectives this study were assess the nutrient intake, symptoms, related quality life (OHRQoL) among Sri Aman district Sarawak. association between OHRQoL also determined. A cross-sectional was conducted 124 second third trimesters attending Maternal Child Health (MCH) Clinic, Klinik Kesihatan Aman, validated self-administered questionnaire used collect following variables: socioeconomic obstetric profile, perceived status, OHRQoL. assessed using short version Malaysian Oral impact Profile (S-OHIP(M)) instrument with original author’s permission. 24-hour diet recall assessment for three non-consecutive days involving 2 weekdays 1 weekend. first through face-to-face interview, while assessments phone interviews. Nutrient analyzed Nutritionist Pro™. All data obtained IBM SPSS Windows 26. Results showed that most (71.0%) trimester. More than half (75.0%) had at least one symptom: cavitated tooth (51.6%), bleeding gum (32.3%), bad breath (27.4%), pain (13.7%), toothache (12.1%), swollen (6.5%). About (52.5%) satisfied their status. energy, vitamin D, calcium, iodine, zinc, fluoride, iron below recommended (RNI) values. reported feeling discomfort due food stuck (11.3%), shy (10.5%), (5.6%), avoiding smiling (5.6%). affected domain psychological (mean 1.95, SD 1.89), followed by functional limitation 1.29, 1.48) physical 1.19, 1.29). 13 selected nutrients found not significantly different symptom without symptoms. Antenatal lower compared those no symptom. presence toothache, tooth, gum, halitosis as symptoms.
 In conclusion, do have adequate intake. Dental caries prevalent, associated poor OHRQoL.
